Sharp wit and reflections on a snail's life and other topics for young readers. Poetry good enough to make you laugh, cry and question the world around you.

Inis (the Childrens' Books Ireland Magazine) Samhradh 2005

The poems of this collection deal with some aspects of contemporary life in an imaginative, playful way, making great use of wordplay and that kind of cleverality which we associate with children of a certain age. It is interesting that knowledge of English is a requirement in order to fully enjoy this work.

A poetic view of common occurrences - how one yawn inspires another (this accompanied by an excellent drawing); the joy of lighting the darkness; the sounds of the night for example - form the second part of the book. Wordplay and fun are to the forefront here again.

The book is dedicated to the children of Scoil Lorcáin, a Gaelsoil in South Dublin where I am sure the contents will be enjoyed as they would in any Gaelscoil, in the Gaeltacht, or in any senior class where Irish is taught as the living language it is. Ó Muirthile's use of imagination and the diversity and scope of poetry will be enjoyed by children of all ages.
