Maolmhaodhóg Ó Ruairc

Maolmhaodhóg Ó Ruairc was born in Rosslea, Co. Fermanagh in 1941. He went to primary school in St. Tiernan’s and to secondary school in St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Armagh. He holds a BA in French and Irish from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, and received an MA in French from the same University after a year’s postgraduate study in Université de Grenoble.

He moved to Brussels in Belgium at the end of the 1970s. He spent twenty-eight years as a translator for the Council of Ministers of the European Union and is now retired. He published several successful titles with Cois Life, particularly in the field of Irish translation, many of which were out of print but reissued on a CD-ROM which accompanied Aistrigh leat (2007). An Gúm published Athdhíolaim d’abairtí dúchasacha in 2009.
